It has long been traditional for right-wing politicians in North America – Republican Teabaggers in Amerikkka and Conservatives (or Tories) in Canada – to don a fraudulent veil of morality as they hypocritically attempt to legislate the morality of the Other 99 Percent.
So it came as no surprise a few weeks ago when extreme-right-wing Conservative Public Safety Minister Vic Toews stood up in Canada’s House of Commons and shrilly screamed at opposition Mps: “You’re either with us or you’re with the child pornographers.”
Toews, of course, was trying to ram through a Tory piece of legislation that actually had very little to do with child pornography and very much to do with allowing any cop in Canada to spy on any Canadian citizen of his or her choosing without even having to obtain a court warrant authorizing the electronic spying.
But while Toews was desperately trying to protray himself and his criminally corrupt Conservative Party as some sort of “pillars of virtue,” the sordidly sorry history of the Conservative Party proves that it is neither a party of morality nor a credible protector of children against child abusers.
Although very little evidence has surfaced publicly yet about the moral depravity of current Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper, there is ample evidence that Canada’s last Conservative Prime Minister Lyin’ Brian Mulroney was not only not a protector of children against child pornographers but was a very active protector of child pornographers against arrest and prosecution.
One of the first things Lyin’ Brian Mulroney did after being elected prime minister in 1984 was appoint a slew of loyal party hacks to the judicial bench.
Among these first appointees was a wealthy Toronto aristocrat by the name of Joseph Sheard, who was made a District Court Judge.
(Like all other Tory judicial appointments, Sheard was promoted because he could be counted on to carry out his duties as a judge from a predisposition to view the law and the parties to a dispute exclusively from the perspective of the Top One Percent. There would be no even-handed application of the law here.)
By early 1987, however, child victims in Toronto were beginning to come forward with stories about a prolific child pornographer known on the street only as “Max the Molder” due to his predilection for making plastic molds of the penises of his mostly male child victims.
Each mold was then mounted and added to his collection in a basement trophy room on Max’s lavish estate just outside Toronto.
Unable to continue ignoring the mounting evidence, Project P (a joint task force of the Ontario Provincial Police, the Metro Toronto Police and other police forces to deal with child prostitution and pornography) launched a major investigation into Max The Molder, who turned out to be none other than Matthew Sheard, the wealthy aristocrat brother of wealthy aristocrat District Court Judge Joseph Sheard.
Over the course of the investigation it was learned that most of Matthew Sheard’s child victims were raped on a bed over which hung a portrait of Matthew Sheard and Conservative Prime Minister Lyin’ Brian Mulroney, all smiles and very affectionate. (Many of Sheard’s victims reported that Matthew Sheard identified Mulroney as his “protector.” And that would certainly prove to be true.
It was also learned that Matthew Sheard made frequent trips to Buffalo, New York, to deliver the kiddie porn to an associate in the Buffalo chapter of an international group called NAMBLA (the North American Man-Boy Love Association) who arranged distribution of the kiddie porn across the U.S.
Just as frontline officers in Project P began to feel they were getting close to being able to nail Matthew Sheard, however, a major misstep occurred. An overzealous Border Patrol officer in Buffalo jumped the gun and had Sheard’s car stripped apart one night when he crossed the border. Unfortunately, on this occasion Sheard’s trip was to pick up two American kids he had planned to rape and film on his estate and no evidence was found in his car.
The next day a call was placed from Conservative Prime Minister Lyin’ Brian Mulroney’s office to the office of Liberal then-Ontario provincial Attorney-General Ian Scott (who was also a known homosexual pedophile)
and the entire six-month-long investigation, which had cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and had already gathered significant evidence, was immediately halted.
No charges were ever laid against Matthew Sheard.
At about the same time, another Tory “pillar of virtue”, Vancouver billionaire Jim Pattison was also getting very rich off the exploitation of kids.
No, Jim Pattison was not yet a billionaire. But he was well on his way to becoming one – primarily as one of the largest distributors of kiddie porn in North America. He also was never charged with any criminal offence.
So the next time you hear any phony right-wing “pillar of virtue” – such as the Republican Teabaggers in Amerikkka or the Conservatives or Tories in Canada – talk about legislating morality – you just might want to puke.
