While millions of cash-strapped Britons are wondering how they will pay for heating fuel this winter, the multi-billionairess queen of England – Queen Elizabeth – has applied for winter heating assistance for her many palaces from a United Kingdom government fund set up to help the truly needy to just survive.
It should come as no surprise that the richest woman in the world – with a net worth of over $2 billion U.S., at last count – is queuing up at the public trough.
Right-wing demagogues like to attack low-income Britons, Americans and Canadians for feeling they have some sort of entitlement from government when the struggling global economy leaves them behind.
But it’s always the billionaires and the mega-millionaires – or their loyal lackeys – who are standing at the head of the line-up for public largesse.
This unmitigated sense of entitlement on the part of those who already have far, far more than their fair share and the unbridled greed it symbolizes are what has brought the global economy to its knees and is still wreaking havoc with the lives of the western masses – the poor, the working class and the middle class.
Even as hundreds of millions are struggling across Europe and North America, the truly wealthy – and their minions – somehow always seem to find their way to the front of the line.
Is it any wonder, then, that after governments have exhausted their treasuries catering to the greedy that the cupboards are inevitably always bare when the truly needy finally reach the front of the line?
The audacity of the corporations and the socioeconomic elite is matched only by the recklessness and zeal of NeoConservative and NeoLiberal governments when the wealthy come a-knockin’.
The massive shortfalls in public funding for health care, education and social programs is directly and uniquely attributable to the stealth policy of the NeoConservative and NeoLiberal governments of the developed world in cynically transferring massive sums of money from the masses to the elite.
Is it any wonder banks and corporations are no longer investing in productive capacity when the western masses can no longer afford to buy even what is now being produced?
Is it any wonder that the western consumer masses – the poor, the working class and the middle class – have become crippled in their collective consumer spending capacity when the corporate quest for ever-cheaper labour and resources has turned so many once-proud western cities into bombed-out-looking shitholes?
And is it any wonder that the socioeconomic elite – in Canada, the U.S. and Britain – have become so brazen in their sense of entitlement when – for the past 35 years – almost all western governments have worshipped at the altar of that insatiable greed?
So the multi-billionairess Queen of England has resorted to begging for public funds intended for the extremely poor heat her many palaces this winter. Her smug and selfish greed merely symbolizes the limitless lust of her entire upper class.
In recent years, it has reached the point – in Canada, the U.S. and Great Britain – where governments are doling out more absolute dollars in welfare for the greedy banks and corporations and their wealthy controllers than in welfare for the truly needy.
The unmitigated gall and greed of Queen Elizabeth and her ilk, however, is not going to be held in check by any NeoLiberal or NeoConservative government.
Betty Windsor will get her massive dole, simply leaving far fewer crumbs to fall off the banquet table for the truly needy.
Das capital.
