It was under then-Republican Teabagger governor Jeb Bush that Florida passed a law so grotesque that it led the U.S. in the wave of “legalized” lynchings that have happened since.
And while Florida may not be the only Amerikkkan state – in fact, there are at least 21, with another handful now pondering them – with a so-called “stand you ground” law, but it is the state where prosecutors and judges have most insanely hewed to the legal obscenity.
Last month’s savage slaughter of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin – an unarmed black kid weighing less than 140 pounds – by George Zimmerman – a well-armed, 280-pound, 28-year-old white man – demands nothing less than the repeal of every one of these so-called “stand you ground” laws, which are really nothing more and nothing less than a re-legalization of lynching. read more »
