As the House of Commons resumes its occasional sittings this week, NDP leader Jack Layton has a tough choice to make: Whether to support the Conservative government of Prime Moron Stephen Harper in an upcoming confidence motion or help bring down that government and bring on a general election.
And beyond this week’s decision on whether to topple the minority government, Layton and the NDP must decide what the party truly will stand for in that election.
For the past generation has drifted ever more toward the “centre” (read “right”) in a vain attempt to woo “centrist” voters.
It’s becoming such that the NDP is looking more and more like a pale imitation of the Liberal – or even the Conservative – party.
