So here I sit again, seething at my “power supplier’s” latest bill and wondering how they get away with this shit. This story involves a late bill, dueling post offices, a company’s inability to compromise, and a draconian way of dealing with whom you hope will be repeat business, but who in the meantime you crush, at every turn, into oblivion.
Recently, I received an annual “Audit” by Hydro One (Ontario’s provincially-owned power distributor), which informed me that my account had received the audit and that it was concluded that increased power usage had warranted an increase in the security deposit to the tune of about $200.00 (Non refundable for one year).
Even though I had not yet started up my dream machine shop, (maybe one day soon…) I complied with the order only to receive another similar increase two months later, this time due to the fact I had taken the “Budgeted” ( estimated) plan and, at the end of the year, they came and read the meter and concluded due to their underestimation of that usage, that the usage had gone up again, and again slapped me with another $200.00 security deposit.
I have definitely not increased my usage over the past two years. Aside from maybe cooking more toast, or taking another minute in the shower, or making my steaks cooked indoors well done rather than rare, the shit is all the same. I live on the county line, so the respective post offices routinely play “Hot Potato” with my mail. “It’s not our problem, It’s yours!!” says Canada Post!! And I receive my bill two weeks late as a result. Also, being the last property along their tangled mess of shitty old wiring, lots of their power is lost in its delivery. So I take a delivery charge that basically doubles my bill and then some.
So now come the dealings with Hydro One. They now want this $1,200.00 payment without fail or they will cut the wires. read more »
