North Americans know all about rigged elections.
By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM
It has been awe-inspiring to watch the hand-wringing by North American politicians and the corporate mass media over whether or not Iran’s presidential election was rigged.
The odds are that Iran’s presidential election was rigged. But so were the U.S. presidential elections of 2000 and 2004 which foist George W. Bush upon America and the world.
The corporate mass media were pretty silent on those electoral thefts.
In fact, the last time Iran has a free and fair election was in the early 1950s, when the Iranian electorate chose a socialist government. In response to this triumph of democracy, the American CIA deposed president Mossadegh and installed its own puppet, the brutal and wildly corrupt Shah of Iran.

NDP must be a force for real change, or cease to exist.
By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM
The election last week of Nova Scotia’s first-ever NDP provincial government – with a sizable majority – could prove to be the biggest test yet for Canada’s “social democratic” party.
Party leaders and political pundits will all interpret the electoral outcome in their own particular ways, but what is clear is that Nova Scotians voted for C-H-A-N-G-E.
While many of those who voted NDP may not be exactly clear on what they were voting for, they were clear on what they were voting against.
They were voting against the corporate agenda to which the Liberals and Conservatives are equally wed.
They were voting against rule of the people, by the rich, for the rich.
They were voting against a philosophy that places the desires of the corporations and the rich ahead of the legitimate needs and rights of the poor and the working class.
They were voting against the continued impoverishment of the middle class and thec further impoverishment of the poor.

Finance Minister Jim Flaherty wants to abandon the masses in their hour of need.
By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM
They’ve bailed out the banks and the automakers and the early stimulus spending has caused the stock markets to again soar, so the G8 finance ministers, led by Canada’s Jim Flaherty, are considering abandoning more stimulus spending and slashing government budgets.
Unemployment continues to soar in all G8 countries – and in Canada most unemployed don’t even qualify for Employment Insurance (EI) benefits – but the superrich have largely recovered and the political lackeys of the corporate agenda are ready to abandon the poor and the middle class to their own devices.
Many of the superrich, of course, have greatly increased their own wealth by gobbling up the shares the middle class were forced to sell at bargain-basement prices only to watch them soar in value.

Phyiscal abuse was only seconday for First Nations children.
By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM
Several weeks ago, First Nations leaders travelled to Rome for an audience with Pope Benedict XVI, at which the Pope apologized perfunctorily for the damage done to native children during decades of physical and sexual abuse at Canada’s residential schools.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Phil Fontaine, the national leader of the Assembly of First Nations, graciously accepted the pontiff’s apology.
Unfortunately, he was far too forgiving.
The rampant abuse of children continued for almost a century, a continuation of the deliberate policy of genocide carried out by the New World’s European invaders. It was the ultimate step in a long tradition of cultural genocide against the legitimate owners of this great land and it was largely successful in its goal of destroying the aboriginal peoples.
And the Roman Catholic Church was not alone in perpetrating this horrendous aggression against defenceless children. The Protestant sects (as I recall, they were the Anglicans, the Baptists and the United Church) also particpated in this orgy of sustained abuse.

Would Lisa Raitt cut off her nose to spite her face?
By Mike Bodrogkozi
WRISEUP.COM
Revelations this week of the comments that came from Canada’s Natural Resources Minister leave me dumfounded about yet another seemingly thoughtless set of sentences coming from yet another government official.
Lisa Raitt is embattled in a controversy involving comments she made that were captured on tape ( I’ll get back to this….) from January involving the medical isotope issue.
On the tape, she says, among other stupid things, “ I’m ready to roll the dice to gain credit for solving the sexy isotope crisis. It’s about the money. Throw money at it .This is easy. It’s not a moral issue.”
Tell that to any of the patients or family of patients waiting for treatment.

Lisa Raitt is only the latest of bimbo Harper cabinet ministers to prove incompetent.
By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM
Over the past several weeks, Canadians have been treated to almost daily evidence that the only criteria for admission to the cabinet of Prime Moron Stephen Harper is a blind commitment to hardcore, extreme right-wing ideology. Competence is simply not a factor.
For months now, Human Resources Minister Diane Finley has steadfastly refused to liberalize the Employment Insurance regulations so that at least half of the hundreds of thousand of Canadians thrown out of work in recent months would qualify for the meagre EI benefits.
For months now, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty has been unable to figure out how much this year’s federal budget deficit will be.
For 18 months, Natural Resources Minister Lisa Raitt has fumbled the Chalk River nuclear plant file, ultimately resulting in a shutdown that has put the lives of many thousands of Canadians, and millions more around the world, at rick. And in the past few days, Raitt’s inability to even keep top-secret documents safely secret has raised questions about why she was ever even allowed near the cabinet room.

'Christian' vigilantes think they're still in the wild, wild west.
By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM
The assassination last week by a “Christian warrior” of Wichita, Kans., abortion doctor George Tiller is a grim reminder of the ever-present danger lurking in the hearts of religious “fundamentalists.”
In this instance, the deranged religious “warrior” who shot the doctor in the head in the middle of his Christian church was indeed an avowed “Christian.”
But his extermism and propensity for mindless violence was typical of all religious “fundamentalists,” not just those of the “Christian” variety.
Wherever religious “fundamentalism” exists in the world there is violence and terror, a constant reminder that their “fundamentalism” is far from “Christian” or “religious.”

Even as the masses suffer, the federal money vanishes down the military-corporate sinkhole.
By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM
A few days ago, Conservative Finance Minister Jim Flaherty capriciously blamed the unemployed for his out-of-control $50-billion budget deficit.
And a couple of days later, Diane Finley – like her leader Stephen Harper a right-wing Conservative first and a human resources minister only second – crowed facetiously that all was well with her Employment Insurance system.
So let’s get this straight: the Conservative-Liberal coalition blames the unemployed for the deficit caused by the greed and incompetence of the corporate boardrooms that caused the recession in the first place and then steadfastly refused to do anything to help the victims.
