The Toronto Star today published on its website the tragic tale of an all-too-typical example of the victims of U.S.-style private, for-profit health care.
It was the story of Lisa Strong, a Florida mother of a couple of young children, who was left four years ago without arms or legs after her local hospital botched the simple treatment of a kidney stone.
Strong had had kidney stones before and she knew this one was bad when she went to the ER.
But the for-profit doctors who treated her ailment screwed up very badly and a horrific infection set in. As the infection rapidly progressed, it became necessary to amputate both her arms and both her legs.
