Caterpillar bulldozes its own workers

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

A very ugly situation is evolving in London, Ontario, Canada – the city where I live – as global construction equipment giant Caterpillar is embarking on a campaign of total destruction of the lives and livelihoods of its own workers.
Caterpillar’s subsidiary there, ElektroMotive, has erected a high fence around its plant and is attempting to force its unionized workers to either go on strike or be locked out.
The previous contract has expired and the Amerikkkan mulinational is determined to cut wages and benefits by 50 percent and abolish the company pension plan.
One would think that Caterpillar must be going through hard times, but nothing could be further from the truth.
Caterpillar is the largest manufacturer of heavy construction equipment in the world and its multi-billion-dollar annual profits soared last year to a new record high.
So why is Caterpillar attempting to bulldoze its own workers? In a word: Greed. In two words: Unbridled Greed. Continue reading “Caterpillar bulldozes its own workers”

2011: A great year for Amerikkka’s rich

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

As 2011 draws to a welcome close, it is worth considering who the year’s winners and losers were.
While the downward spiral continued for the Other 99 Percent of Americans – and indeed the Other 99 Percent across much of the world – the Top One Percent of Amerikkkans did just fine, thank you.
They continued to widen the gap between The Rich and The Rest to a point where the horrific imbalance is now more extreme than ever – and still widening.
And, of course, they continued to get off scot free for the millions of individual major felonies committed by literally thousands of gangster bankster corporate executives.
Now, as Barack Obama’s first – and quite possibly last – term as United States president limps into its final year, all looks just as bloomy for the Top One Percent as it appears gloomy for the Other 99 Percent. Continue reading “2011: A great year for Amerikkka’s rich”

On Bill Gates’ nefarious notion of ‘charity’

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

Over the past few years, Bill Gates and a handful of his fellow mega-billionaires have garnered billions of dollars worth of free favourable publicity around the world for themselves and the corporations they control by making vague promises that they would “someday” give away all their billions.
In the meantime, while they are supposedly downsizing their vast holdings, they are – in reality – actually expanding their inordinate wealth by playing a phony “charity” game.
In Gates’ case, we have simply to look as his malaria vaccination program in equatorial Africa.
True, Gates has given about a billion dollars to give out “free” vaccinations that may, in reality, be inflicting incalculable future damage on the recipients.
But there’s a catch! These free vaccines don’t even work unless the recipient also receives multiple doses of an accompanying medication.
That medication, however, is only produced by multinational pharmceutical giant Glaxo Smith Kline. The problem is that this side medication costs several times as much as the “free” vaccines cost Bill Gates. Continue reading “On Bill Gates’ nefarious notion of ‘charity’”

In Amerikkka, it’s Xmas feast or famine

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

Amerikkka’s seven largest banks – each of which in the past four years has received tens of billions of dollars in bailouts from the United States Government and hundreds of billions of dollars in free loans from the Federal Reserve – are doling out $160 billion in bonuses to their executives this Christmas.
Assuming there are as many as 160,000 executives receiving bonuses, it works out to an average yearly bonus of one million dollars – that’s right, their average annual bonus.
They’ll all be pigging out at the Buffet Banquet of the Bankster Buffoons – not just on Christmas Day but all year ‘round.
At the other end of the income spectrum, 1.6 million American kids will be homeless this Christmas.
Oh sure, most will get a toy or two and a turkey dinner with all the trimmings on Christmas Day – thanks to the Salvation Army or some other local church or mission.
But what heppens to them the other 365 days a year (2012 is, after all, a Leap Year)? Continue reading “In Amerikkka, it’s Xmas feast or famine”

Peddling misinformation & disinformation

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

There is a great irony in two new major factoids revealed in the past few days and that irony should be a source of bemusement for most thinking Americans.
The first item was the revelation that, accroding to the latest U.S. Census, almost one in two Americans qualifies as either poor or low-income – in the richest country in the world.
And the second item is the revelation that a new poll shows that 43 percent of Amerikkkans are not aware of any income gap between the rich and the poor.
How can anyone live in today’s Amerikkka and not be aware of the enormous gap between the rich and the rest that is threatening to swallow the country whole?
The answer lies in where they live and where they get their news. Continue reading “Peddling misinformation & disinformation”

FFA fomenting anti-Muslim U.S. bigotry

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

The Florida Family Association, a wingnut group if ever there was one, was out in full bedsheet paraphernalia this week as it pressured home-improvement giant Lowe’s into cancelling its ads on a TLC show called “All-American Muslim.”
“All-American Muslim” was a program developed by TLC to combat religious bigotry and demonstrate that the average American Muslim is, deep down inside, no different from the average American.
It was meant to be a sociological exploration of the Muslim reality in Amerikkka
that might help allay the irrational fears some Americans harbour toward Muslims.
But the Florida Family Association and its executive director, David Caton, were having none of it.
As anxious as any of their KKKristian kkkonservative allies to nip anything in the bud that might promote inter-religious and inter-racial tolerance, the Flordia Family Association jumped into action. Continue reading “FFA fomenting anti-Muslim U.S. bigotry”

Bankster bonuses should be a RICO affair

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

United States President Barack Obama has made it amply clear that his administration has no intention of ever sending a wealthy white man to prison no matter how heinous his crimes – unless those crimes are committed against other wealthy white people.
But there is still an action his Department of Justice can undertake that would otherwise punish the thousands of Amerikkkan banksters whose massive frauds caused the global economic meltdown of 2008:
He could charge the major banks under the RICO Act (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Corporations Act), which has been on the books since 1970.
Although originally intended as a device for combatting the Mafia, the RICO Act has been used successfully to prosecute other corporations, and even financial institutions, that are not controlled by organized crime. Continue reading “Bankster bonuses should be a RICO affair”

‘Operation Iraqi Freedom’ ends — sort of

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

Earlier this week, United States President Barack Obama officially announced this end of so-called “Operation Iraqi Freedom” – the illegal invasion and occupation of the oil-rich Miseast country – with the vow that all American tropps would be home by the end of this month.
Of course, Obama failed to mention that many thousands of Amerikkkan mercenaries – soldiers of fortune – contractors would remain there for many more years at a cost of many more billions of dollars.
After all, each of these private soldiers is paid about $100,000 a year and the corporations – such as Blackwater or Xi or its latest incarnation, Academi – that hire the private soldiers are allowed to profit off the back of each private soldier to the tune of another $100,000 a year.
You’d think the executives of these corporate private armies were actually risking their own lives and limbs; but, alas, they are not.
The Obama adminstration has also prevaricated on this immoral war of aggression in two other important ways: Both in its declaration of some sort of laudable achievement and its summarization of the total cost of that most unholy war. Continue reading “‘Operation Iraqi Freedom’ ends — sort of”

U.S., U.K. defend gangster banksterism

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

A few days ago, David Cameron, the extreme-right-wing Conservative Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, renounced a series of financial reforms unanimously agreed to by the other 26 member states of the Euopean Union.
In doing so, Cameron joined United States President Barack Obama, a so-called “centrist” Democrat, in making the two largest predominantly-white, primarily-English-speaking industrialized countries the last standing bastions of gangster banksterism.
Obama, of course, wasted no time after his 2008 election in announcing that he wanted “to look forward and not backward” and thus would not be prosecuting any wealthy white men no matter how heinous their crimes. In the U.S., criminal prosecutions under “the first African-American president” are reserved almost exclusively for African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, American Indians and poor whites.
You certainly won’t find any rich, old, fat white men hanging from the gallows no matter how many people die horrible deaths as a consequence of their greed-inspired criminality. Continue reading “U.S., U.K. defend gangster banksterism”

What the 1% has stolen in only 30 years

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

Never in the history of the world has so much been stolen from so many by so few as in the past 30 years of corporate capitalist, Neoliberal/Neoconservative, “trickle-down,” so-called supply-side economics or Reaganomics.
Led by Ronald Reagan – The Great Prevaricator – the extreme-right-wing nutbar fringe sold Amerikkka and even much of America on the supposed merits of throwing money at the rich, in the hope that by some weird quirk of fate some of that money would someday “trickle down” to the masses – The Other 99% – the poor, the working class and the middle class.
To their credit, Amerikkka’s poor and working class by and large saw the scam for what it was and opposed it. But so many middle-class Amerikkkans – blinded by their own petty resentments and their own petty jealousies – bought into the scam and helped to saddle the common people in Amerikkka and around the world with 30 years of malignant decline.
Amerikkka, Canada and most of the advanced industrial world were fairly egalitarian in 1980 by today’s standards.
But then the governments of Amerikkka and Canada and the United Kingdom led the rest of the developed world down the garden path. Continue reading “What the 1% has stolen in only 30 years”
