Has Occupy Wall Street lit the spark?

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

Occupy Wall Street – the protest movement that actually began on Wall Street in downtown Manhattan – is still going strong and getting stronger every day after two full weeks.
The mass of protesters has grown larger every day in New York City. It began with a couple of hundred people and is now up to as many as 6,000 people – and that’s under very harsh conditions imposed on them by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the NYPD.
More importantly, it has spread to at least eighty other Amerikkkan cities, drawn growing support from labour unions and progressive grassroots organizations, and created a buzz around the world.
Evidently inspired by the Arab Spring, the European uprisings and the continuing uprisings even in Israel, it was inevitable the it would cross the Atlantic – or the Pacific – sooner or later, because the harsh austerity being cruelly imposed on the masses – the poor, the working class and the middle class – while the coddled millionaires and billionaires continue to get ever richer, is simply unsustainable. On the notion of a grand global conspiracy

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

There are a considerable number of “properly” rebuked but nevertheless influential conspiracy theorists who hold that the world is not controlled by the various “legitimate” – often “democratically” elected – governments but by a narrow cabal of the super-wealthy and super-powerful.
These “conspirators” are often defined as the Bilderberg Group or the Trilateral Commission or some other well-juiced secret society.
And while these theories may well hold some realpolitik validity, I do not personally subscribe to the theory that some small secret society of one thousand or so billionaires could possibly control everything that happens in the world and still keep their evil agenda cloaked in secrecy. It just fails the test of common sense.
Nor do I believe that everyone who participates in the corporate capitalist system is a secret conspirator.
But I do believe that global corporate capitalism – in and of itself – is malevolently conspiratorial in nature. Continue reading “On the notion of a grand global conspiracy”

Abiding the law of the technological jungle

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

As bad as things are economically for the vast majority of people in the “economically advanced” western world, it is our fetishes for newness and consumerism that are making things much worse.
We have become so inescapably dependent on so many consumer electronic devices in our everyday lives that most of us are running on a treadmill just trying to keep up.
It seems that every device – whether it’s the iPod or the iPad or the smartphone – has a new product generation almost every year. (Talk about built-in obsolescence!) And, of course, for maximum connectivity and maximum peer approval, we must all update every year.
While it’s just one of many reasons why almost every household requires multiple incomes just to remain viable, it is a phenomenon that really contributes very little to our ultimate quality of life while contributing very largely to the cost of living. The media kills the unwelcome messenger

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

The corporate mass media – and even some state-owned public media – across much of the western world were almost apoplectic today as they embarked upon the solemn mission of destroying a messenger with an unwelcome message.
The target messenger was independent U.K. equities trader Alessio Rastani, who regaled the BBC’s viewers last night by telling tales out of school about the real thinking of the socioeconomic elite and, in particular, the billionaire and mega-millionaire banksters.
Among Rastani’s shocking-but-not-surprising revelations was the widespread belief, even within the financial community, that it is not the “democratically” elected governments but Amerikkkan Wall St. megalith Goldman-Sachs that really “rules the world.” Continue reading “The media kills the unwelcome messenger”

U.S. foreign aid to Israel must be halted

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

The 24-hour Jewish New Year – Rosh Hashanah – began at sunset today. Also a holy day, it is a time for the middle class to “repent and become righteous.”
But is not so much the Jewish middle class – nor the Jewish poor or working classes – that should be “repenting and becoming righteous.”
Rather, it is Israel’s racist, right-wing zionists and their puppet political prostitutes who should be atoning for their monstrous sins.
For 44 years now, the Israeli government has illegally occupied Palestinian lands and forced the Palestinian people to live under concentration-camp-like conditions.
For almost 20 years, Palestinian leaders have sought to negotiate a two-state solution – based on the 1967 borders – that the U.S., Canada and many European countries purport to support.
But for all this time, the Israeli government has made a mockery of the very idea of negotiating a final and binding two-state solution to the interminable hostilities. Continue reading “U.S. foreign aid to Israel must be halted”

‘Upward mobility’ gets axed in Amerikkka

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

For more than two hundred years it was heralded as the essence of the “Amerikkkan Dream” – the realizable goal of leaving behind the poverty of one’s birth and rising at least into the middle class.
But that essence of the “Amerikkkan Dream” has since been abolished by the unrelenting greed and the government-aided-and-abetted criminality of the socioeconomic elite – the billionaires and mega-millionaires who already own almost everything worth owning.
A new study released this week shows that if you are born poor in Amerikkka, you now are far more likely to die poor than if you were born in any other OECD country. Continue reading “‘Upward mobility’ gets axed in Amerikkka”

Bankster bailout burden buries Greek masses

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

The Greek masses – the poor, the working class and the middle class – remain bloodied but unbowed today as they continue their noble uprising against their government’s savage austerity program designed to save the sorry butts of French and German banksters.
The Hellenic country’s masses are being cruelly diminished by harsh government policies that will do the Greek people no good but will further enrich the already-far-to-rich banksters.
The saddest part of the tragedy is that it is an allegedly “Socialist” prime minister, George Papandreou, who is pandering to Europe’s socioeconomic elite – the millionaires and billionaires – rather than giving priority to the legitimate needs of his own people.
That should come as no surprise, however, as Papandreou was actually born in St. Paul, Minnesota, and largely educated in the U.S.
Thoroughly indoctrinated into the corporate capitalist agenda by his western educators, Papandreou is another phony, no more “socialist” than U.S. President Barack Obama or any of the Republican Tea Party assholes who want his job. Continue reading “Bankster bailout burden buries Greek masses”

New York cops arrest Wall St. protesters

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

The mass protests on New York City’s Wall Street entered their tenth day today despite the arrest of more than 80 protesters over the weekend.
Although the actual number of protesters has very rarely exceeded about 1,200 on any given day, and although the protests have been very peaceful throughout, the NYPD felt impelled to move in and attempt to sedate the gatherings.
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the NYPD had already made it extremely difficult for the protesters to persist in their noble project.
They knew the expression of mass dissent was intended to be a protracted event that could last a month or even longer. So what did they do? They banned the protesters from bringing tents into the Wall Street park where they were attempting to camp out. Continue reading “New York cops arrest Wall St. protesters”

Who really wages ‘class warfare’ in Amerikkka?

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

In the scant few days since United States President Barack Obama proposed very modest tax increases for corporations and the wealthy, the circus of ignorant, effete, hate-filled Republican Tea Party pretenders after the presidency have been falling all over themselves with their shrill screams of “class warfare.”
But who really wages “class warfare” in Amerikkka? Even a cursory look at the record of the past 30 years shows that it is the socioeconomic elite – the millionaires and billionaires and their cabal of puppet political prostitutes – who are waging this unholy war against the masses – the poor, the working class and the middle class – rather than the reverse.
Consider just some of the salient facts: Continue reading “Who really wages ‘class warfare’ in Amerikkka?”

Only in Amerikkka: A bizarre execution

By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

As I sit down to write this column, Troy Davis is probably being strapped back onto the gurney at the Georgia prison where he will be put to death tonight.
Davis, a black man, was convicted in 1991 of killing an off-duty white police officer in 1989 in the deep south community of Savannah, Georgia.
There was not an iota of physical evidence connecting Davis to the police officer’s tragic death.
His conviction was based almost entirely on the so-called eyewitness testimony of nine people known to the police, including one jailhouse informant who claimed Davis had confessed to him.
Seven of those nine witnesses have since recanted or changed their testimony, all alleging that they were pressured and intimidated by the police into providing false evidence.
Numerous highly-respected luminaries, both American and foreign, have pleaded for Davis’ life, including many known supporters of capital punishment.
Many thousands of Americans and foreigners have also signed petitions begging for this man’s life to be spared.
But all their pleas have fallen on deaf ears. At 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time tonight, the corrupt and bloodthirsty United States Supreme Court rejected Davis’ final appeal for clemency. Continue reading “Only in Amerikkka: A bizarre execution”
