The perfidy of the elite is killing us all

The rich obviously won't be happy until they own everything.

I’ve just finished reading an article on the website of the French-language Montreal daily La Presse which has really set my blood a-boilin’.
The newspaper reported, as I’m sure almost all did, that the New York stock exchange finished lower today as investors grew incrasingly concerned about public debt levels in some European and North American countries.
I am simply appalled at the unmitigated, greed-driven selfishness of the investor class.
Most of the advanced industrial countries in the world have just finished spending scores of T-R-I-L-L-I-O-N-S of dollars bailing out the banks, the corporations and the billionaires and megamillionaires whose unbridled greed, incompetence, corruption and criminality plunged the world into economic chaos.
And while the socioeconomic elite has now fully recovered from its paper losses of the past year and a half, hundreds of millions in the world’s poor and middle classes – including tens of millions in the U.S. and Canada – are still suffering greatly – from unemployment, from reduced wages and working hours, from foreclosures and from a growing credit crunch.

On the American health-care-reform heist

47 million Americans will still have to wait years for health care.
47 million Americans will still have to wait years for health care.

The United States’ senate’s health-care reform bill finally was passed by the House of Representatives yesterday and while it is a tiny step in the right direction, on the whole it was a major victory for the opponents of universal health care.
America boasts to the rest of the world that it is a great democracy but the outcome of a struggle that lasted more than a year revealed that great democracy as nothing more than a corporate capitalist hoax.
President Barack Obama and the Democrats caved in on single-payer, on universality, on taxing the rich to pay for health care for the poor, on immediate implementation of the so-called reforms, on “public” health care and a slew of other health-care essentials.
In fact, they accepted more than 200 amendments proposed by the Republicans for the sole purpose of derailing any real health-care reform.

Netanyahu’s defiance puts U.S. in a bind

The Israeli Prime Minister continues to push the envelope.By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

The latest twist in the psychotic death-dance embrace between Israel and the U.S. threatens to thrust the entire Middle East into a bloody conflagration.
Israel’s nutbar, ultra-right-wing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rekindled the legitimate Arab and Muslim complaints about American sovereignty a few days ago, during a visit to his country by American Vice-president Joe Biden.
Netanyahu’s audacity in announcing 1,600 new Jewish settlements on Palestinian land while Biden sat a few feet away was a kick in the American cojones. And many are questioning whether America indeed has the cojones to stand up to Israel.
In recent years, Israel has seemed determined to scuttle any hope of peace between Israel, the Palestinians and, by extension, the entire Middle East. And America has bent in the background to the level of a squeaky-voiced cheerleader.
Why is it thus?

The putrid stench of a political payoff

Tory Rahim Jaffer now has a licence to drive drunk and possess cocaine.By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

Did I just catch a rancid whiff of a brazen political payoff? And should we be surprised when certain politicians gain the illicit stature of being above the law?
Not when those politicians have already proven useful to advancing the Neo-Liberal/NeoConservative capitalist corporate agenda.
The fact that it was a federal Conservative heavyweighht, Rahim Jaffer, getting a big favour from a provincial Liberal justice system only goes to serve that the so-called “left” (the Liberals) of corporate capitalism are willing to wash the “right” hand of their Conservative fellow-travellers.
Rahim Jaffer first came to national fame when he was elected as a visible-minority Reform Party MP from hardcore right-wing Alberta before the Reform(ers) chewed up and swallowed the Progressive Conservatives, becoming a shiny new, hardcore, extreme right-wing Conservative Party (minus its erstwhile “progressives”) in the process.
Jaffer came to court in Brampton, Ontario, this week, scheduled to face criminal charges of impaired driving and cocaine possession and a lesser, minor charge of “careless driving” under the toothless Highway Traffic Act.

The federal budget from NeoCon hell

Finance Minister Darth Flaherty sets the corporate capitalist tone.By Henry McRandall
WRISEUP.COM

The federal budget tabled by Conservative Finance Minister Jim Flaherty this week was clever enough to quasi-conceal its dire intents.
Dressed to the nines in the pagan myths of corporate capitalism, this “Three Dressed Up As A Nine” barely escaped a zero.
Flaherty pretended to be introducing a “stay-the-course” budget with the most Draconian measures held at bay until next year. For now, the tidbits of austerity are only to be hinted at, even as the public largesse toward the banks and the corporate sector continues.
What Flaherty has actually done is set the direction and inflict the barest possible obvious pains on the masses while rewarding the socioeconomic elite whose greed, corruption, incompetence and criminality caused the global financial meltdown in the first place.
